BUILDING MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
Under limited general supervision, performs semi-skilled general maintenance work in maintaining the buildings and structures that are part of the Town of Camp Verde municipality, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
The Building Maintenance Technician requires a diverse mix of both hard and soft skills, particularly manual labor skills, including:
  • Plumbing knowledge to address leaks, clogs or other drainage problems
  • Electrical wiring capabilities to manage problems with the building’s electricity
  • Carpentry ability to handle basic repairs around the building
  • Grounds maintenance if the facility contains lawns or other outdoor areas in need of maintenance.
  • Attention to detail to ensure that all jobs are completed in an exemplary manner and any potential hazards or warning signs of problems are not overlooked
  • Physical stamina to handle a full shift of being active and working on the building

  • Performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks, including plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, and basic electrical and wiring work; inspects structures for damage, follows all safety rules and regulations to minimize risk of accidents; works on assigned projects, and makes appropriate decisions based on work experience; duties will vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
  • Survey buildings to ensure they are consistent with health and safety standards.
  • Perform maintenance of electrical systems (replace light bulbs and sockets, clean and repair circuit breaker panels etc.)
  • Assist in the setup of ventilation, refrigeration and other systems and conduct repairs when necessary to maintain heating and cooling systems to ensure functionality.
  • Inspect alarm systems (fire, protection) and schedule repairs when needed.
  • Perform manual repairs when necessary (fix locks, replace windows etc.)
  • Undertake activities of pest control such as spraying insecticide. Conduct general upkeep procedures (e.g. landscaping) and other tasks as assigned (painting, carpentry etc.)
  • Operates a variety of trucks and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries; responds as directed to assist with emergency operations and maintenance work; performs setup and tear down and other tasks for special events as directed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
 
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Required Licenses or Certifications:
  • Must possess State of Arizona Driver's license;.
  • Some incumbents may be required to obtain specific technical certifications.
 
Required Knowledge of:
  • Proven experience as Building Maintenance Technician or similar position in the field.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and other systems.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods
  • Working knowledge of tools, common appliances and devices
  • Manual dexterity and problem-solving skills
  • Certificate in HVAC, building maintenance technology or relevant field will be a plus (Not Mandatory, Desired)
  • Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) (Not Mandatory, Desired)
  • Tools and equipment used in building and maintenance.
  • Federal and state safety rules and regulations.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Required Skill in:
  • Working independently to complete daily activities according to work schedule.

  • Interpreting and applying verbal and written instructions and procedures.
 
Physical Demands / Work Environment: 
  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors; requires constant physical efforts in performing maintenance and repair projects, and ability to lift and move items weighing up to seventy pounds.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND one year of general maintenance experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
